A ROOT/IO Based Software Framework for CMS

چکیده

The CMS experiment [1] is one of the four approved LHC experiments. Data taking is scheduled to begin in 2007, and will last at least ten years. The CMS software and computing task [2] will be 10-1000 times larger than that of current HEP experiments. Therefore it is essential that software must be modular, flexible, and maintainable as well as providing high performance and quality. One of the technologies utilized has been a C++ based object oriented database management system (ODBMS). Originally, the specific implementation used for object persistency was a commercial product, Objectivity/DB [3]. In 2001, it became apparent that Objectivity was not the optimal long term solution for data persistency, and that it was necessary to abandon Objectivity with a very short time scale. A decision was made to directly use ROOT/IO [4] as a component of an interim persistency implementation. In the very near future, the LHC computing grid persistency project will provide POOL [5] as an implementation for persistency. This paper primarily covers the conversion from Objectivity/DB to ROOT/IO. Also briefly discussed is the ongoing transition to POOL.

A Mathematical Model for Cell Formation in CMS Using Sequence Data

Cell formation problem in Cellular Manufacturing System (CMS) design has derived the attention of researchers for more than three decades. However, use of sequence data for cell formation has been the least investigated area. Sequence data provides valuable information about the flow patterns of various jobs in a manufacturing system. This paper presents a new mathematical model to solve a cell...

CMS Data Analysis: Current Status and Future Strategy

We present the current status of CMS data analysis architecture and describe work on future Grid-based distributed analysis prototypes. CMS has two main software frameworks related to data analysis: COBRA, the main framework, and IGUANA, the interactive visualisation framework. Software using these frameworks is used today in the world-wide production and analysis of CMS data. We describe their...

Alignment of the Cosmic Rack with the Hits and Impact Points Algorithm

We present first results of a track based alignment procedure applied to test beam data recorded with Cosmic Rack, a test setup which mimicks the outer barrel of the CMS Tracker. The Hits and Impact Points alignment method is used within the CMS reconstruction software framework to align this telescope-like device. These results were compared to results obtained with manual alignment and to res...

R3BRoot: a ROOT based Simulation and Analysis framework for R3B

The structure of the framework is presented schematically in Fig. 1. The main class FairRunManger handles the overall program flow and the communication between different modules, namely Geometry Interface, RunTime DataBase , Event Generators, IO Manager and the Virtual Monte Carlo. The latter is an interface to differents Monte Carlo engine (Geant3, Geant4 and Fluka) allowing the user to choos...
